James Tissot (own name Jacques-Joseph Tissot, October 15, 1836 - August 8, 1902) - French artist, worked in England, was born in Nantes. He studied at the Paris School of Fine Arts, as well as with Dominique Ingres and Hippolyte Flandren. He painted sets for historical plays, romantic, historical costume genre scenes with carefully studied costumes and furnishings of the 15th century, but then he quickly became popular as a salon artist, author of many colorful female portraits. Tissot's style was formed under the influence of the Impressionists. His paintings have certain features of similarity with their works in the transmission of the air environment and the nature of the compositions. However, Tissot's graceful and charming canvases are more reminiscent of illustrations for fashionable secular magazines.
