In fairy tales, living and dead water is brought by the Grad, Thunder and Whirlwind, or birds that embody these elements - Eagle, Falcon, Raven. Dead water is also called "healing", it splices parts of the body, chopped into pieces. The rest is completed by the "living" water - it returns life, endows with heroic strength.
In ancient times, the Slavs called the waters flowing from springs alive. It was believed that the living waters were inhabited by distant sisters - mermaids.
