In pagan ancient Russia, lace of blizzards and white storms were personified with the maiden of snow. More often than not, she seemed stout, majestic. Shine, radiance, beauty were identified with the epithet white.
Later, she was presented in fairy tales as a kind Mother in winter, then as an evil stepmother. She appeared in the images of a gray-haired sorceress and a young Snow Maiden.
