In Slavic mythology, a gradivnik (hmarnik) is a sorcerer who can protect his village from bad weather. Fighting off the storm, he runs around the village, rings the bells, fights with invisible spirits, conjures the clouds.
The leader of the storm, usually riding in a black robe on a black horse, will never defeat an experienced hailstorm and will be forced to pour hail somewhere outside the village.
