God Veles (he was also called Volos) was considered the second most important after Perun.
There was Veles-Volos, shaggy, hairy, like a bear or a man dressed in a bear's skin. Initially, in the distant hunting past, he obviously embodied the spirit of a killed animal, the owner of the forest, a bear. And even earlier, a mammoth, a primitive rhinoceros, which were also hairy. When our ancestors began to engage in cattle breeding, the protection and patronage of this forest god became not at all superfluous. He was asked to protect his cattle.
