German racing driver, 1999 Formula 3000 champion. Born May 10, 1977 in Mönchengladbach.
Started karting at the age of 11. In 1994, Heidfeld moved to the German Formula Ford, which he won unexpectedly quickly, winning eight out of nine races the following year.
Debut in Formula 1 took place in Australia in 2000 as part of the Prost Peugeot team. This season was terrible for a beginner.
He spent the next three seasons at Sauber Petronas. The first season was significantly more successful, Heidfeld regularly finished with glasses, Nick first hit the podium at the 2001 Brazilian Grand Prix. The team finished fourth in the constructors' championship, and Heidfeld finished eighth in the individual competition. At the 2002 Austrian Grand Prix, Nick was in a serious accident, fortunately he was not injured.
In 2004, Heidfeld's contract with Sauber expired and he was forced to look for a new job. At this time, most of the vacancies were already filled, and Nick had to be content with the "exchange" with Fisichella, moving to the Jordan team. At the first opportunity, the German left Jordan.
Such an opportunity was the tests for the famous Williams team, which completely renewed its roster. Nick showed himself positively with Williams BMW. However, the end of the season for Williams turned out to be unfortunate. Due to the conflict between the management of the team and the minders from BMW, it was decided to divide the team for the next season. In the 2005-06 offseason, Frank Williams and BMW parted ways, dividing the team and riders, Heidfeld followed the German group. BMW bought out the Sauber team, and thus Heidfeld returned to Sauber without leaving BMW. Nick spent 4 seasons at Sauber BMW.
but the only thing he could achieve here was 5th place in the 2007 season. BMW has announced that it will close the team at the end of the season due to poor performance, so both drivers are exempt from their 2010 contracts. Heidfeld returned to Formula 1 for the 2010 season and played 5 Grand Prix with Team Sauber from the Singapore Grand Prix to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
In the 2011 Formula 1 season, Heidfeld replaced the injured Robert Kubica in the Renault team.
At the Malaysian Grand Prix, Nick Heidfeld climbed to the podium, taking third place for the first time since 2009. However, this was where his successes ended. As a result, the contract with Heidfeld was terminated.
