In previous centuries, a wide-brimmed hat was the privilege of women only from the upper class.
Hats for women began to be widely used in the Middle Ages, when the church began to require women to wear their heads covered. However, the profession of a milliner officially appeared only in the eighteenth century, and the history of a woman's hat was born.
The very word "milliner" appeared in Milan, where at the beginning of the eighteenth century they made women's hats from the finest straw. For a long time, this profession remained predominantly female.
