Cassiopeia is the wife of the Ethiopian king Kefei. Cassiopeia took it into her head to boast of her beauty to the Nereids. The Nereids were angry, and with them their uncle Poseidon, who sent a flood to Ethiopia and a sea monster devouring people. According to the predictions of the priests of the god Amun (Zeus), the deliverance from the monster could only occur when the daughter of Cassiopeia Andromeda was sacrificed. All Ethiopians demanded this, and Kefei had to do it. Andromeda was saved by Perseus, and Cassiopeia was turned into a constellation.
