Hat with upward curved triangular brim.
The most common headdress in the French army of the 18th century was a round hat made of black felt, the brim of which was curved upwards on three sides. It was the well-known cocked hat. But by the end of the century, the "horn of the hat" - an acute angle protruding forward - practically disappeared, and the lateral margins, on the contrary, lengthened. This is how the bicorne appeared. However, in the Russian tradition, this name did not take root, and for several centuries Napoleon's headdress in Russia has been persistently called a cocked hat, confusing inquisitive minds: in the images the emperor of the French in a hat with two corners, and in the name there are three of them.
