Banshees or benches, bansi, bansii ("heavenly cloud women"), in Irish mythology, fairies, into which the gods from the Tribes of the goddess Danu turned after the sons of Mil, the ancestors of the Irish, appeared on the territory of modern Ireland. These gods and goddesses were forced to go into the depths of the earth and live under the hills in the thickets, hide among the swamps in the enchanted forests, and among the clouds in the magical skies.
According to Celtic beliefs, banshees can take on any form - clouds, shadows, bush, haze, girls, etc. Until now, many residents of Ireland and the north of England believe that their mournful cry, called Kiening and clearly audible at night, certainly portends an imminent human death, in some counties this distressing cry-cry was called "prophetic story".
