Pandora ("gifted to all") - the first woman, was created by Hephaestus at the behest of Zeus as punishment for people for the abduction of fire from the gods by Prometheus. Hephaestus fashioned her out of earth and water, Athena gave her beautiful clothes, Aphrodite gave her irresistible charm, and Hera - intelligence, cunning, deceit and eloquence. Pandora was gifted by other gods (hence her name - gifted by all). Zeus gave her in marriage to the titan Epimetheus. For the wedding, Zeus presented Pandora with a vessel (chest, box) in which all human vices, troubles, misfortunes and diseases were enclosed. Seeing this vessel in her husband's house, curious Pandora, despite the prohibition, opened it, and all the calamities from which humanity suffers spread throughout the earth. Only Hope remained at the bottom of the vessel, as Zeus wished. In a figurative sense, "Pandora's box" is the source of all disasters. Pyrrha's mother.
