Bowler hat (from English bowler hat) - European men's hat of hemispherical shape made of solid felt.
The first bowler hat was made in 1850 by the London firm of Thomas and William Bowler (hence the English name) from a sketch by James and George Locke. Bowlers became popular with the working class towards the end of the 19th century, replacing expensive and more bulky top hats, then they became part of the uniforms of bank employees and officers of the Queen's Guard, but already in the early 20th century they began to be replaced by boaters and felt hats. Nevertheless, bowlers continued to be a part of everyday dress in the UK until the 1960s. (as a rule, among the petty bourgeoisie, lawyers). By now, the bowler hat has gone out of everyday use; it is only worn for ceremonies.
Initially, it was a casual headdress for men, but gradually it migrated to the women's wardrobe.
You will immediately recognize this headpiece from the small brim, the rounded crown and the famous rapeseed ribbon. These models are made of felt and are worn with a cashmere coat. But modern fashion has gone further. The famous bowler hat has remained virtually unchanged since the 19th century. The form and manufacturing method remain classic, but the variety of colors and methods of decoration are very different.
