Kirka (in the Latinized form of Circe) is a sorceress, related to Hecate, the goddess of the moon and, like Hecate and Medea, a representative of sorcery. She turned Odysseus's companions into pigs, and kept him with her for a year. From Odysseus, Circe had a son Telegon, who, when he grew up, went in search of his father, but, arriving in Ithaca, did not recognize Odysseus and killed him in the ensuing battle. In a figurative sense, Circe is an insidious seducer.
