The Paris Opera belongs to the era of major transformations of the city, embodied by Napoleon III and Prefect Haussmann.
Previously, the theater building was called the Paris Opera, but after the opening in 1989 of the second theatrical site for the Paris National Opera - the Opera Bastille, it was named after the architect Charles Garnier.
