The Château de Cheverny was built by Jacques Huro - the quartermaster of King Louis XII - in 1490 on the site of an old mill
This tall and narrow building is linked by two wings with square pavilions covered with rounded roofs topped with lanterns. Here, the layout of a purely Renaissance style is somewhat diluted with the influence of the classics, expressed in a series of niches decorated with busts, which gives the facade a graceful lightness.
Among the ancillary premises of the castle there is a very expressive Trophy Hall, which displays more than 2,000 deer antlers, as well as a kennel with six dozen magnificent dogs trained for hound hunting.
In contrast to other castles such as Blois or Chambord, whose interiors are almost empty, Cheverny keeps the magnificent furniture of the era of Louis XIII intact. Apparently this is due to the fact that the castle had a happy lot - to remain in the hands of one family, with the exception of a small period in 1564, when it belonged to Diana de Poitiers. This allowed us to preserve the unity of the style and the entire ensemble as a whole.
