These species of grass parrots are native to Australia, where they inhabit both natural and anthropogenic landscapes. Grass parrots feed mainly on grass seeds and small insects, deftly running along the ground, making their way through the grass thickets. They nest both in natural shelters of various kinds (tree hollows, interlacing of branches, roots, etc.), and in human buildings (sheds, attics, etc.).
All herbal parrots lead a twilight lifestyle: during daylight hours they are mostly sedentary, but with the onset of dusk they become more active.
The voice of grass parrots is not loud, males of some species emit rather pleasant trills.
