Pleiades (ancient Greek Πλειάδες) - in ancient Greek mythology, the daughters of the titan Atlanta and the oceanides of the Pleiones: Alcyone, Keleno, Maya, Merope, Asterope, Taygetus and Electra. Sisters of Gias, Hyades and Calypso. In antiquity, they are most often presented as nymphs in the escort of Artemis.
According to one of the myths, the Pleiades, seized with grief over the death of their brother Gias and the Hyades sisters, committed suicide, were taken to heaven and turned into a constellation. Bright stars in the Pleiades cluster are named after the seven sisters
