A beautiful legend - about the origin of orchids - originated in New Zealand. Long ago, long before humans appeared, the only visible parts of the earth were the snow-capped peaks of high mountains. From time to time, the sun melted the snow, forcing the water to descend from the mountains in a stormy stream, evaporating to form curly clouds. These clouds eventually completely obscured the view of the earth from the sun.
One day the sun wanted to pierce this impenetrable veil. A heavy tropical rain has started. After him, a huge rainbow formed, embracing the whole sky. Immortal spirits, then the only inhabitants of the earth, admired by the unprecedented spectacle, began to flock to the rainbow from all even the most distant regions. Everyone wanted to grab a spot on the multi-colored bridge. They pushed and scolded. But then they all sat down on the rainbow and sang together. Little by little, the rainbow sagged under their weight, until it finally crashed to the ground, scattering at the same time into a myriad of small multi-colored sparks. Each piece of earth gratefully accepted the fragments of the sky bridge. Those that were caught by the trees turned into orchids.
