This picture was included in the golden collection of Soviet art and today is the real pride of Belarus. He painted a canvas measuring two and a half by five meters for almost 10 years.
Each character in the picture is painted from life. 89 witnesses of a historical moment on one canvas. Valentin Volkov approached the work with documentary accuracy. Neighbors, acquaintances, students, relatives and soldiers who had survived the occupation of the capital and had so much anticipated the Great Victory posed for him. They say that the artist gave almost half of his fee to pay for the work of the sitters.
