Volgodonsk

Volgodonsk is the easternmost city of the Rostov region, located in its eastern part. The city is spread out in the Salsk steppes, on the left bank of the Tsimlyansk reservoir (on the Don River). It is connected by waterways with five seas - White and Baltic in the north, Caspian in the east, Azov and Black in the south. The irrigation Donskoy main canal begins in Volgodonsk.
The history of the city is closely connected with the creation of the Volgodonsk NPP Information Center, which was created to increase the population's knowledge about the operation of the NPP. The center hosts an exchange of views, expert meetings, forums, seminars, scientific events dedicated to the study of NPP operation. The exhibition complex includes exhibits that provide a visual representation of the operation of the plant - a model of a nuclear power plant, a reactor, etc.
The Tsimlyansk reservoir is the only reservoir on the Don. Formed as a result of the construction of a dam near Tsimlyansk. It is a bowl with three branches. The basin was completely filled within 1 year. The reasons for the creation were: deepening for navigation along the Volga-Don route, self-irrigation of dry lands, use for energy generation at hydroelectric power plants.
