Resurrection Military Cathedral
The Resurrection Troops Cathedral is the main architectural attraction of the village of Starocherkasskaya (Rostov Region) - the first stone cathedral on the Don.
The temple was built according to the vow made by the Don Cossacks during the Azov epic, when it seemed that all of them were in danger of inevitable death. The Cossacks withstood more than three months of the siege, having achieved its lifting.
The stone church was built from 1706 to 1719, during the period of the decree of Peter I, which prohibited the construction of stone buildings everywhere except Petersburg. However, in view of political necessity, Peter himself contributed to the construction.
