One day, in a small Polish village called Zalipie, someone painted a flower on the ceiling to hide traces of soot. Ventilation was poor in those days, and soot stains were common in most homes. The villagers really liked the flower on the ceiling, and they began to hide their soot under the flowers. In the end, all the houses in the village were covered with flowers. Flowers were in barns, wells, bridges and churches.
