You are a royal whim of a whim.
You are called Northern Palmyra,
Peter's beloved Paradise!

Your appearance pleases the eye.
Every stroke is familiar and sweet in it,
Ornate baroque style
The apartments are expensive.

A city of gilded cathedrals
Palaces of graceful and chambers,
Sculptural works without reproach ...
Vivat, St. Petersburg, vivat!

You are like paradise in beauty
There is no better city in the world.
You are not in the least afraid
No floods, no Swede.

Here is the Peter and Paul Fortress
And the famous port of Kronstadt
All the ferocity is taken down from the enemy -
Russia is not afraid of the adversary.

The gates of Russia on the latch -
They are guarded by the capital city.
Here the cannon marks noon.
Here the nights are white.

Here the names pop up decorously,
Those that anyone is ready to call:
Great Peter, Catherine,
Prince Menshikov and Count Orlov ...
