St. Augustine, Florida is the first European city in the United States.
Former luxury hotel Alcazar, 1887, which now houses the Lightner Museum, a collection of Victorian antiquities. The location was chosen by Chicago-based publisher Otto S. Lightner, who moved his vast collection of Victorian art to St. Augustine in 1948.
