Wanaka is a lake in the Otago region, in the southeast of New Zealand's South Island. The lake is located at an altitude of 300 m above sea level. Has an area of 180 km². The fifth largest lake in New Zealand
The lake is located in a valley formed by glacial erosion during the last ice age about 10 thousand years ago. The shores in the southwest and southeast are gentle. The Makarora River flows into the lake from the north, the Matukituki River from the southwest. The Kluta River flows out of the southeastern part of the lake.
