The temple was built in the 12th century on the territory that was owned by the Chendel dynasty. Later, the history of this family ends somewhere in the 13th century. Perhaps they were captured, defeated by other peoples. Only at the end of the 19th century, a British explorer discovered an abandoned temple complex in the jungle, breathing a second life into it.
