Located in Tokyo's Bunkyo District, Rikugien Garden is one of Japan's top ten places to visit in the fall. This garden is a typical example of Japanese garden architecture of the Edo period, or rather an example of Japanese landscape art in the style of "kai-yu", literally "carousel", or tisen-kajyu-siki - "walk through the seasonal garden ". It was founded in 1702 by the confidant of the local shogun, the noble samurai Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu. The idea that inspired the samurai to create a beautiful and harmonious garden ensemble was taken from traditional Japanese poetry - waka. Actually, "Rikugen" means "Six Poems".
