Anna Pavlovna: Napoleon's failed bride.
"Her kindness is given preference over intelligence," - this is how the French ambassador described to Napoleon the daughter of Paul I, Anna, whom the French monarch hoped to marry. He asked her hand in marriage several times, but each time her brother, Emperor Alexander I, avoided answering. The main opponent of this marriage was the mother of the Grand Duchess. In January 1816, 21-year-old Anne married a Dutch heir, and they had four sons and a daughter.
