Ravnica is the "City of Guilds" in the card game "Magic: The Gathering". There are ten guilds in the city, each with its own specialization. Their influence is balanced by an ancient agreement called the Guildpact. Each of the ten guilds mastered two of the five colors of mana, and this determined their purpose and lifestyle:
The Boros Paramilitary Guild (red and white) claims that righteousness is in fire, shining with the light of justice.
The Izzet, ruled by a dragon (blue-red), combine technology and elemental magic, making the members of this guild unsurpassed inventors.
The Selesnya (green and white) guild members value dedication, training, and spirituality - while others see them as fanatical, brainwashed nature devotees.
Death-worshiping Golgari guild (black and green) controls a large army of undead that work in the dungeons of the city.
The Secret House of Dimir (black and blue) gives the idle minds food for stories of necromancer advisors, ghostly assassins, and dark monsters lurking in the sewers.
The Orzov guild (white and black) is dominated by a strict hierarchy, pomp and rituals. Its members become real slaves to trade and money.
Gruuls (red-green) - a guild of vagabonds, bandits and scribes They are driven only by primitive desires and instincts.
The Azorius Senate (white and blue) are the lawmakers of Ravnica.
The Rakdos and their demon lord seek pleasure in murder and revelry.
In the midst of all this political games and chaos, Simic Fellowship researchers (green-blue) work tirelessly to preserve nature - not hesitating to change it if necessary for survival.
