Nilo-Stolobenskaya Pustyn (Nilova Pustyn) is an Orthodox monastery located on Stolobny Island and partly on the Swetlitsa Peninsula, 10 km north of the town of Ostashkov, on Lake Seliger.
In the 16th century, the hermit Nil settled in the Tver Upper Volga region, later the Russian saint Nil Stolobensky the Wonderworker, whose fame spread far beyond the Tver land. As it turned out later, this event had important consequences for the history of the region. The Monk Nile settled on the island of Stolobny, where in 1594 the monastery of the Nilov Hermitage was built, which became not only the keeper of the behests of the prayer book, but also the spiritual center of the entire Upper Volga region. In the history of the monastery there were many bitter years filled with difficult trials, however, despite all the difficulties, the Nilova Pustyn continued to develop, strengthen and rebuild with the material support of Russian tsars and noble patrons of the arts
