Santorini is a volcanic island in the Cyclades. It has a unique geography as a result of the eruption of a still active volcano. During the eruption, the volcano's cone exploded and fell into the sea, leaving partially submerged remnants on the surface, which is now a crescent-shaped piece of land.
On the one hand, these are small houses built on steep cliffs. Many houses are nothing more than niches carved out of the pumice stone left by the volcano. The other side of the island slopes gently down to the sea and forms beaches of black volcanic ash. Scattered across the island are many family churches that sparkle among white houses in the bright summer sun with their blue domes.
