Mani

The southernmost peninsula of Greece, one of the extremities of the larger Peloponnese peninsula. Mani in ancient mythology was one of the most sacred places in Hellas - it was here, on Cape Tenaron (Tenaro), that the entrance to the kingdom of Hades was located. The peninsula itself is the southern tip of the Taygetos range, rocky and deserted, and its arid landscapes are something of a fiefdom of the highlanders. This is a land with a special culture and history - nowhere in Greece can you find places with such a clear medieval influence in literally all aspects of life.
