The Acropolis of Athens is the heart and main tourist attraction of Athens and Greece. Well visible from all sides (in Athens, the construction of high-rise buildings is prohibited, so as not to block the view of the Acropolis), it serves as an excellent reference point for moving around the city. Built in 450 BC and dedicated to the goddess Athena (Virgo), she survived many wars and 400 years of Turkish rule.
