Susanna and the Elders

Susanna and the Elders is a very popular plot from the biblical apocrypha in painting. While Susanna bathed naked in her garden, two old men (respected elders who were elected judges by the Jews) spied on her, and then, threatening to accuse her of adultery, tried to persuade her to surrender to them. Susanna refused to satisfy the desire of the elders, was falsely accused by them and sentenced to death for this, but at the last minute she was saved thanks to the prophet Daniel, who interrogated the elders separately. False witnesses were caught in a lie and executed.
