Mojito (Spanish Mojito) is a cocktail based on light rum and mint leaves. Originally from the island of Cuba, it became popular in the USA in the 1980s. The cocktail is listed as a "modern classic" by the International Bartenders Association (IBA) and is classified as a long drink.
Mojito traditionally consists of four ingredients: soda, sugar, lime, and mint. Crushed ice is added to cool the drink. The fifth ingredient is added to alcoholic mojito - rum. Recently, to speed up the preparation of a cocktail, instead of separate soda and sugar, various sugary drinks such as "Sprite" have been used. In mojito, the combination of sweet and refreshing citrus and mint, which may have been added to rum to mask its strength, made this cocktail one of the most popular summer drinks. Some hotels in Havana also add angostura to the mojito.
