Georg III (1738 - 1820) - King of Great Britain in 1760-1820, King of Hanover in 1815-1820
The long (almost 60 years, third longest after the reigns of Victoria and Elizabeth II) reign of George III was marked by revolutionary events in the world: the separation of the American colonies from the British crown and the formation of the United States, the Great French Revolution and the Anglo-French political and armed struggle that ended in the Napoleonic wars ...
His style of government was tough and aggressive. By the beginning of the 70s, after ten years of his reign, George III, in the fight against the Whigs, achieved that he began to rule the kingdom himself. In 1770, he put in the head of the government a loyal Lord Noris, who was only a constitutional screen. In fact, Georg was his own prime minister. He arbitrarily disposed of government offices, portfolios of ministers and church property.
At the same time, George III had many qualities that made him very attractive to the average Englishman. Sincerely devout, impeccable in his private life, personally modest and thrifty, he has always deservedly enjoyed the respect of his people.
George also went down in history as a victim of a serious mental illness, due to which regency was established over him from 1811
