The Owens Valley is located east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and west of the White Mountains.
"Land of Stingy Rain" - this is how the writer Mary Austin called this land by the name of one of her novels - and indeed Owens Valley, as well as the one lying next to it, to the south, Death Valley is one of the driest places on the globe.
