Hillwood Museum is a museum in Washington DC (USA). Owner of one of the best collections of Russian art in the West.
The museum's collection was put together by the wealthy American heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. In 1935-1955 she was married for the third time to the American diplomat Joseph Davis and lived with him in Moscow in 1937-1938. As the owner of a large collection of Western European art, in Moscow she visited antique and second-hand shops, where she acquired antiques, paintings, icons, church vestments, and porcelain. In the 40s, upon her return to the United States, Post began to acquire Russian art objects in New York, London and Paris. Subsequently, she decided to turn her home into a museum. After her death, the house and art collection became the property of a special fund.
