Henry VIII, the Tudor king of England, who ruled 1509-1547 Son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York.
Educated and gifted, Henry VII ruled as a representative of European absolutism, by the end of his reign he severely persecuted his real and imaginary political opponents.
In the government, Henry VIII relied on his favorites: Thomas Wolsey, Thomas Cromwell, Thomas Cranmer. Leading the religious reformation in the country, in 1534 being proclaimed head of the Anglican Church, in 1536 and 1539 he carried out a large-scale secularization of the monastic lands, a significant part of which passed into the hands of the new nobility. During 1535-1539, commissions specially created by Henry VII closed all the monasteries operating in England. Their property was confiscated, the brethren were expelled. During these years, by order of the king, the relics of many saints were opened, robbed and desecrated.
During the reign of Henry VIII, England fought devastating wars with France and Scotland, which, coupled with the enormous expenses of the royal court, led to a complete disruption of public finances.
