The construction of the castle continued from the 12th to the 17th century. At first it was a medieval defensive fortress, which was eventually turned into a chic aristocratic castle. In the 16th century, it was owned by the treasurer of Louis XII, but the castle gained fame thanks to Madame de Maintenon, the second wife of King Louis XIV. In this castle, overlooking the aqueduct, the movie "The Professional" was filmed with Jean Paul Belmondo in the title role.
