The Royal Mauritshuis Gallery in The Hague acquired the painting for 6.5 million thanks to the generous support of the Bank Giro Lottery, the Rembrandt Association and individuals.
The painting was put up for auction at TEFAF in Maastricht in 2016. The museum knew it had to act quickly, as there was fierce competition for this 17th century Dutch painting masterpiece, and managed to complete the purchase before the auction opened.
However, until the auction closed, the krtina continued to hang in the room and visitors could admire the 6.5 million bouquet.
Now this bouquet can be seen next to Jan Vermeer's painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring", which, by the way, went to the museum as a gift.
