Matrim Coughton

One of the main characters in the cycle of books by Robert Jordan "The Wheel of Time".
Matt Coughton was born and raised in Emond's Meadow. A good friend of both Randa al'Tor and Perrin Aybara, he often did something that would get all three of them into trouble. Mat, like his two friends, was forced to leave the seclusion of the small village in which he grew up when the Trollocs attacked the village on Winter Night.

During the battle with the Seanchan at Falme, Mat Koutun sounded the Valir's Horn, summoning the Heroes of the Wheel. As long as Mat is alive, in the wrong hands, the horn will act like any other ordinary horn, and only he will be able to summon long-dead heroes from the grave.

He visited two ter'anrigals: slanted redstone doorways leading to other dimensions to the creatures Elfin and Ilfin. It was there that Mat received the knowledge and memories of hundreds of soldiers and generals who died centuries ago. He can freely, but sometimes unconsciously, speak the Ancient Speech. His weapon of choice is the battle staff, but he uses mostly a strange black spear called the ashandari, which he obtained from Ilfin in Ruidin. This type of weapon has not been used for many years and was created using the Force. There he also received a fox head medallion, which protects him from the effects of the One Force, but not from its consequences.
