In its shape, the reservoir resembles the Convolutus flower, in honor of which the lake got its name in 1883 with the light hand of Mrs. McGowan, the wife of the assistant manager of the park. And sixteen years later, in 1899, according to the order of the authorities of the state of Wyoming, the reservoir was officially called Morning Glory Lake.
