Thai cuisine has long been influenced by Indian, Chinese and Portuguese culinary traditions. Many foreign borrowings are found today, but the Thai style of cooking is so unique and specific that the cuisine of this country has become famous throughout the world.
You can hardly find Thai cuisine without spices and chili pepper, which in Thailand has more than ten types. Thai dishes are always very spicy, with a pronounced aroma. For a traditional Thai meal, the chef uses about 40 types of spices and herbs. Since the 18th century, Thais have been using Indian curry and "Gaeng massaman", a mixture of various spices.
In Thai cuisine, you cannot clearly define the taste of a dish - a combination of sweet, sour, spicy, bitter, salty, and all in one plate! To prepare their dishes, Thais use a variety of fruits, vegetables, various types of fish and marine life, they make no exceptions for meat, and there are often recipes using several types at once. Thais have no concept of hunger, since the climatic conditions make it possible to harvest greens all year round and two or three harvests of fruits and vegetables a year.
