Route 66 (US Route 66, also known as the Will Rogers Highway, colloquially known as America's Main Street or Mother of the Roads) was one of the first highways in the US numbered highway system.
Highway 66 was opened on November 11, 1926. However, there were no road signs until 1927, and the road received full asphalt by 1936. The highway originally began in Chicago, Illinois, passing through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and ending in Los Angeles, California, covering a total of 3,940 kilometers (2,448 miles).
In popular culture, she gained fame in the 50-60s of the XX century thanks to popular songs that became hits, as well as television series.
