The Advent Calendar or Adventskalender is a special calendar in European countries showing the time remaining until Christmas. Each box / bag / box corresponds to one calendar number, in which small sweets for children are put.
The first mentions of Christmas calendars date back to the first half of the 19th century. The tradition began in Germany by followers of the Lutheran Church. In 1903, a children's Christmas calendar was printed by Gerhard Lang at his Reichhold & Lang printing house in Munich, which consisted of a field with 24 colored cut-out cards and a cardboard board for gluing. Soon the custom spread to the territory of German-speaking countries (Austria, part of Switzerland). And since the beginning of the 20th century, millions of children and adults throughout Europe, shortly before the main holiday of the year, open the windows of their favorite Christmas calendar every day.
