Founded in the 13th century, Cesky Krumlov got its name from the ancient Germanic word meaning “curved channel”, since it is in this place that the Vltava river bends picturesquely, almost almost crossing its own channel.
Throughout its existence, the city has often changed its owners, belonging to representatives of various dynasties and various noble families. It was in turn owned by the Rosenberg, Habsburg, Eggenbergs, Schwarzenbergs. Thanks to such an impressive list of aristocratic families, the old city is represented by architectural monuments of amazing beauty, belonging to a variety of directions in architecture.
