Coburg
At the foot of the Festungsberg hill lies the palace square with the monument to Duke Ernst I in the center. The square received its present design in the period 1830-1837. It is surrounded by several buildings and structures, the main of which is the Ehrenburg Palace. The palace was founded in 1543 by Duke Ernst von Saxe. In the 19th century, it acquired its final appearance, receiving an English neo-Gothic facade. The palace houses a museum and a large state library.
