The campaign of 1813 put an end to his glorious military activity: on August 15, during the battle of Dresden, Melissino, with two infantry regiments under his command that day, cut into the middle of the enemy square, but was mortally wounded by three bullets. Companions managed to take him away from the battlefield, Lubentsy, having learned about the fate of their chief, rode up without a command and laid many enemy officers and soldiers. Melissino was taken to the nearest tavern, where he died in the evening. His body was left there and then was not found. The widow erected a monument to him in Kulm.
