The Moscow State University Botanical Garden "Apothecary Garden" is the oldest botanical garden in Russia, founded by Peter I in 1706. It has the status of a monument of history and culture of Moscow, a monument of gardening art of the 18th century and a specially protected natural area. The garden is located in the Central Administrative District of Moscow, at the beginning of Mira Avenue
In 1805, by order of Alexander I, the pharmaceutical garden was purchased by the Imperial Moscow University and soon became one of the largest centers of Russian botanical science. Now the Botanical Garden is a subdivision of the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University.
